Feb 23, 2018 · The UCLA Applied Math REU also sent out at least some acceptances on Friday. Also, I am pretty sure that some REUs are still not done with acceptances yet, even those with mid-February deadlines, so just sit tight until Friday! In previous years, I've heard of some acceptances being released in mid-March. The REU carries a $5500 stipend, on-campus housing* and travel expenses*. An important goal of the REU program is to provide an opportunity to do research to students who are historically underrepresented within scientific research. This includes women, members of underrepresented minorities and persons with disabilities. Continuing tradition: mathematics REU Since 2001, I have been a contributor each summer to the "Research Experience for Undergraduates" program run by the University of Chicago Department of Mathematics (until 2011 under VIGRE grants from the NSF), directed by Peter May.

The Chicago REU has been in operation since 2000, but before 2015 it was limited to University of Chicago participants. It has since been open to broader participation. It has served as a springboard for current graduate students at virtually all of the top departments of mathematics in the United States.
